The Generous Kingdom: Giving Beyond Measure (Radical Generosity of the Samaritan, the Boy and the Boss)

By Pastora Monique Lopez Ong

What is the meaning of generosity? The word generosity comes from the Latin word “generosus” meaning “you are of noble birth,” either you are a king or queen, prince or princess. And because you are of noble birth, you have the willingness to give without asking for anything in return.

Luke 10 tells of the story of the Good Samaritan.

Stop for the one. These are called holy interruptions. When you are willing to give time to others even when it is out of your way or out of your time, this is generosity. What does stopping dor the one look like?

  • You need to have compassion for the lost or anyone in need.

  • You are not bound by culture or traditions.

  • You are willing to be interrupted.

  • It is very messy and hands on.

  • It can be financially inconvenient. It’s out of your budget but you give anyway.

  • You are not expecting anything in return.

John 5 tells the story of Jesus feeding the 5000. Have you experienced a need that seemed impossible?

Give what you have. God gifted you with so many things so it’s time to xercise faith even in the smallest things. How can we be generous like the little boy?

  • Give with a willing heart.

  • Give out of sacrifice.

  • Give even if it’s small or insignificant.

  • Give with trust and faith.

  • Give and believe for a miracle.

Matthew 20 tells of the parable of the workers in the vineyard, wherein the boss pays his workers the same amount no matter how many hours they worked for him.

Be graciously generous like the boss. You have to be a carrier of God’s favor. The vineyard is God’s kingdom. While many are not doing anything, we encourage them to believe and go to Jesus, that even at the last minute, God accepts them into His kingdom. How can we exercise grace like the boss?

  • God’s grace was given to all. Novody can earn it and nobody deserves it.

  • Serving God is open to all.

  • Do not conpare your blessings with others.

  • Celebrate and rejoic in God’s favor to others.

  • Live in humility.

  • Thank God for His overflowing grace.

Have you already met our generous Father? He is generous to everyone. Sometimes, your eyes are always on other people and that is where you sin. God is asking you to look at Him. Eyes on Jesus only.
