Jesus

by Pastor Alex Ruelo - A name is very important. And our names were very well thought of by the people around us who gave us our names.

The Bible, in Luke 1:31, says “But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” The name Jesus was specifically given to Him. It is very important and very special. When I was ypung, there was a song that said, “we have fallen in love with a man we have never seen!” But who is Jesus?

For Muslims, Jesus is just a prophet. He was not the Son of God and God is not Jesus. He was also not crucified on the cross. In Hinduism, Jesus is just a teacher, a regular person like us. For Mormons, Jesus is the brother of Lucifer. They said He cannot be God. In Iglesia ni Cristo, Jesus is equal to Manalo, who us the messenger of God. And to Quiboloy, well, onle he knows the answer to that.

But really, who is Jesus?

Jesus is God.

He is also man but He is God. John 1:1-3 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” When the book of John was

written, he wanted to tell the entire world about The Word. The Word is the law. And it is very important. Thus, the Word made the world. The Word is authority for them. Thatis why it is said, the Word is with God and the Word is God. But the Word became flesh! So why did John not use Jesus but used The Word? Because John needed to deliver the Word, that it became flesh and it is the authority for everybody.

Jesus is the Son of God.

Matthew 3:17 says “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” There was a declaration from heaven that Jesus is the Son of God. So when Jesus Christ proclaimed it during His ministry, He declared it because the Father declared it before Him.

Jesus is the Lamb of God.

John 1:29 says, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” Can you imagine offering a sheep everyday of your life until the day you die? Because that was law in Exodus 29:38, that you had to offer a lamb everyday until you die. And when you die, ypur sons and daughters will do it after you. But in Isaiah 53:7, God knew the Israelites will not be able to uphold their end of the deal so He said He will give the sacrifice and Jesus became the sacrifi
