Handling Natural Thoughts

By Pastor Alex Ruelo

1 Corinthians 2:14 says, “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.” There are two kinds of carnal people: the believers and the unbelievers. You cannot tell the unbeliever that he is carnal because he does not have the spirit in him. Their spirit is dead and they are carnally minded that is why they reject the word of God. They do not listen because they do not understand. The believer, on the other hand, also rejects the spirit that is already in him. Matthew 16:13-16 says, “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” People can only guess who Jesus really is. But only Peter got the correct answer. Only the spirit in him and the spirit in Jesus could comprehend.

When your spirit is not right with God, you cannot hear Him. Many people ask what God’s will is in their life. They cannot see it because their spirit is far from Him. They do not get what God is saying, they do not understand Him, and they do not hear Him because they live in the flesh. For you to understand the Word of God, you need to live in the spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:3 says, “Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is the one speaking to your spirit. You cannot blame the pastor, the church, or anything else. Your worship is dry because you are not worshipping in spirit. Your spirit needs to be alive. You need to renew you mind.

3 Sources of Thinking for the renewing of the mind

  1. Your natural senses - During Noah’s time, the people have never heard of the word rain. They laughed at Noah because they do not understand what it means and have never experienced it. But Noah had favor in the eyes of God, because he warned the people even if he himself did not understand what God meant. God blessed Abraham and then asked him to leave his hometown to go to a land that was promised to him. When Moses and the Israelites were being chased by the Egyptians, Moses prayed and the Lord only asked them to make them walk and the sea was parted. During Joshua’s time, God asked them to go to war with only trumpets and Jericho’s walls came tumbling down. There are so many instances in the Bible wherein God’s instructions did not make any sense - Gideon, David, Martha, Peter, and even Jesus Christ experienced such. Sometimes the Lord’s will makes no sense at all. That is why you need to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh.

  2. Testimony of Others - Luke 8:49-50 says, “While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” The flesh will not understand the work of God. Only the spirit will.

  3. Word of God - 1 John 5:10-12 says, “Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” The flesh will not understand the will of God if the spirit is dead.

Salvation is God’s gift to man. Ephesians 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” You are already blessed. Do not pray for God to bless and heal you. Pray because you are already blessed and healed. God has already bequeathed upon you everything that you already need. God wants you to experience heaven on earth. God’s promise is not only eternal life in heaven. But He has also given you abundant blessings here on earth. Jeremiah 1:12 says, “The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” Many do not listen to the word and the blessings of God just pass them by. You need to renew your mind to see the promises of God come to life. It might not make any sense right now but it will. Soon. 1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” Jesus’ wounds have healed you. You are whole
