How can we glorify God? What’s the best way to show that we are His children and we are reflections of Him? We are very conscious about our physical image but that’s not how people see us. Everyone observes— they tend to watch your behavior and judge if you, who claims to be a child of God, holds wrongdoings that contradicts the teachings of the Lord. In times of trouble and problems, God wants us to stay upright because it is what people observe, and in our excellent behavior, we glorify Him.

1 Peter 2:12-17 “12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”

Here are four points why and how can we keep our behavior excellent.

1. Submission to every human institution – Nowadays, we find it hard to submit to authorities; and we have our own reasons why we tend not to—it’s either they are cruel to us or unworthy of the position. But that is not what God wants us to do. As followers of God, we must submit to those whom God ordained. We must submit not because it is convenient or it is what others do but because it is the right thing to do. We will submit to the authorities and we will do it for the Lord.

Romans 13:1 “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

2. Honoring All People – As mortals, we have adapted many mindsets as we grow up. Good behavior, bad behavior, even bad assumptions and judgments to other people. But God wants us to realize that we cannot assume one’s capability to serve the Lord. We might be surprised that the poorest community will be the first to lend a hand to help the Lord’s people who are in need. We are setting our own expectations and creating scenes that are merely true. But these people who we judge are the first ones who gave themselves to the Lord, in order to follow the will of the Lord to selflessly serve others.

2 Corinthians 8:1-5 “And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2 In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy, and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. 5 And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.

3. Loving the Brotherhood – One way of glorifying God is to love our brotherhood. In James 2, it tells us that with our faith we must show our action, hence, faith alone is dead. We can pray for our brothers to overcome their problems, but our action and behavior will truly show that we care for our spiritual brothers in Christ. We must not get tired of helping and proving that God is moving through you, for in time, the one who lends will be abundant with blessings too.

James 2:15-18 “15 suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.”

4. Fear of God – Nowadays, the name of the Lord has been used in many inglorious phrases and things; and as children of God, we must not be guilty of this evildoings. Other must see that we are the ones who uplift the name of Jesus in the highest and not the ones who forsake it just for fun. We will do this because we fear the lord, the most powerful and highest. We will do this for His glory and not for our own nobility.

Exodus 20:7 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”

No one’s obliging you to behave excellently for Jesus, but as Christians, it is one of the most glorifying things we can do for Him. For all His sacrifices and endless love for us, this is one great way to show everyone that life is better with God. And in time, we will see the fruit of our behavior, by the grace of God and through us, His children, more and more people will turn away from their sins. Through our excellent behavior fueled by our love for the Lord, we can encourage more people to praise Him, and believe in Him. As Christians, we will do this for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
